Course Overview
This 4 hour course on Dermatology will give veterinary professionals the most up to date knowledge to treat dermatological conditions in small animals. The four topics covered include: The Itchy Cat! Feline pruritus: Pruritic cats can be extremely annoying and difficult to work up for a variety of reasons. We will freshen up on some of the common causes of pruritus in the cat including how to diagnose them and treating them. Canine atopic dermatitis: Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is becoming more and more common in clinical practice. Diagnosing it is not always easy or straight forward though, but we will cover some of the tips and tricks to work through these cases. We will cover the treatment options since they have increased in the last 5 to 10 years, but keep in mind that more options does not always mean it is easier to treat. Otitis externa: Ear infections can be extremely easy to treat some of the time, but it is those difficult cases that make us very frustrated. We will discuss some of the problems or hurdles when dealing with otitis externa. Pyoderma: Pyoderma cases are very common and an everyday occurrence in veterinary medicine. We will cover some of the techniques currently used for diagnosing and treating pyoderma to try to optimize your success. Participants will learn from Jason Pieper, an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Iowa State University. He is also a Diplomate American College of Veterinary Dermatology
